Her eyesight has started to worsen and I fear she’s damaging her eyes

Now in her mid-40s, my wife’s eyesight has started to worsen, but rather than buy expensive optician glasses she insists on multiple £1 pairs from Poundland. I worry she’s damaging her eyes but she says they’re fine. Did anyone who did the same live to regret it?
